One of the most frequently asked questions our team receives at Fridge Filters Australia is “How often should I replace my fridge’s water filter?” Although this is an important question to ask, there is also a secondary question that is often overlooked: what other components directly impact the quality and performance of my fridge’s water filtration system besides changing the filter?

An ever-increasing number of homes across Australia today are utilising some form of water filtration device within their refrigerator for peace of mind when dispensing ice or chilled water. Regular water filter changes are an integral part of the filter system’s overall ability to not only enhance the taste of your water and ice, but also to protect you and your family. However, if you’re not replacing the inlet and outlet poly tubing every 3 years, they may not be allowing the filter to do its job effectively.

To explain this better, let’s talk about what happens to the poly tubing as it gets older. Before the water passes through the filter, it needs to first pass through the poly tubing. Because this water often contains particulate material such as sand, dirt, and rust, it begins to work almost like an abrasive, slowly wearing away at the smoothness of the extruded tube. These worn areas can become small crevices in which particulate matter and bacteria can reside, as they are now hidden away from the flow of the water. These unwanted contaminants can infiltrate the filtration device and cause it to expire early or limit the filter’s ability to perform effectively.

To maintain the cleanliness of your refrigerator’s internal components and prevent this from occurring, you can schedule your own reminder by marking the filter with the tubing change out date. Alternatively, you can schedule a change out date reminder service with our friendly team. Simply give us a call on 1300 742 249 or send us an email to [email protected] and one of our experienced staff will be in touch with you.
